Full of problems since I opened it, RUINS DISCS
There are times when I'm wrong about things, usually because I'm being stupid and decide to use electronics incorrectly or trying to do things with them that they aren't ment to handle.
br /
br /In the case of the Xbox 360 I admit defeat. Either I'm some stupid guy that doesn't know how to take care of it properly or this system has alot of problems! (frankly I think it's the latter but who's asking right?) I have both a PS3 and an X360, and I admit I was somewhat excited to be getting this system. I ordered a refurbished 20 GB HDD to go with it and a headset for online play. As for games I bought the following;
br /
br /Battlefield Bad Company 2
br /Modern Warfare 2
br /Dead Rising
br /Perfect Dark Zero
br /Lost Odyssey
br /Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise
br /and several XBLA Titles
br /
br /First off the good news, each of these games are great! The graphics were very solid and crisp compared to the PS3, I was very much impressed by the clean Xbox Dashboard. It just all came together and overall had alot of features I could only wish would come to the PS3. Particularly the custom music playing even while a game was exiting (the PS3 cannot do this). I also found the controller very comfortable and perfect for human hands.
br /
br /Another thing is that the system runs in constant 1080p mode, while the PS3 has to reset the resolution to 720p or 1080i depending on the game, which makes my TV display that the PS3 is switching stuff around.
br /
br /Ok, now the bad bad news.
br /
br /1. A big one for me, shortly after bringing home Modern Warfare 2, I promptly popped it in. Started it up. And was scared half to death as the system started grinding. I immediately removed the disc and found a deep ring of scratches all along the disc. The disc was now unplayable. In taking it back to Gamestop, I was told that happened because my console was in the vertical position, they replaced the disc which I found to be very generous considering it was completely my bad. Lesson learnt! DO NOT USE THE CONSOLE IN THE VERTICAL POSITION EVER! Which is stupid because there are rubber nobs on the vertical position, not to mention you see the 360 ON THE BOX being in the vertical postion. My console is now firmly planted in the horizontal position. No more problems! :) Side Note: I also ruined my copy of Bad Company 2 because of this, albeit I did bump the console while it was playing. But still this is unacceptable, these games cost 60 dollars most of the time. I cant have this! The PS3 has never ruined a disc! Even after being dropped while playing a disc, but I digress.
br /
br /2. The D-Pad on the controller is basically garbage, it's just a plate on a pivot, there is no tactile response to ANYTHING, I press down but for some reason I go right, I press Right-Down I go Left-Down. It's ridiculous, I never use the D-Pad because of this.
br /
br /3. The Avatars are a blatant ripoff of Nintendo's Mii's. Every time I turn on the console I see myself as a stupid little deformed Mii. If I wanted a Mii, I would have purchased a Wii. Microsoft is finding what everyone wants in a system and steals it, making a Frankenstein of a system. The menu system (although clean and professional looking) is a complete mess, redundant menu items are placed everywhere and ads as far as the eye can see. I spent (literally) 2 hours trying to figure out how to choose the default login account at startup. Unbelievable!
br /
br /4. The power supply is a massive brick of death, adding to an already massive and bulky system. Not only that, but the power supply has it's own cooling fan!
br /
br /5. This thing is loud! I can't stand the noise it makes when a disc is spinning in the system. (the power supply brick also attributes to the overall noise!) I had the 360 sitting on my coffee table as I played, I laid my feet upon the table and could feel the system vibrating the table. This isn't just a minor grip, I have never had to turn the volume up in a game to cover the sound of the system, this is unprecedented in the worst way.
br /
br /Overall, if you are considering a next Gen HD system. The PS3 and the X360 are very similar in terms of power and capabilities, so in my opinion, if I could only choose one, it would be the PS3. But I'm not trying to convince anyone not to buy a Xbox 360, if you already have your heart set or if your a fan of Microsoft nothing I can say will change your mind. I'm just making sure you're aware of what you're getting yourself into so you aren't expecting the system of the gods here.
br /
br /The 360 has a great library of Disc based and Downloadable exclusive games that you wont find anywhere else. The system has it's high points but it certainly has more bad ones that it's worth. I recommend getting an Xbox 360 ONLY if there is an exclusive title you simply can't live without playing or owning, such as Lost Odyssey or Dead Rising, both the very reason I bought a 360 myself. Just be prepared for the downfalls of such a console. Handle this system with care!

XBox arcade
Great console. If you already have an HD you don't need to spend more on a pricier unit.

X-Marks the spot!!
Microsoft's little engine that could, was at first met with cynics such as myself.
br /I actually referred to it as the all American discardware: Red as in RROD, White for white hot heat sinks which can lead to RROD. And Blue, for the early adopters 2005-2007 that "Blew" $$$ from buying accessories and peripherals i.e. wireless adapter, box live subscriptions and replacement consoles.
br /But when it comes down to it, it's about the games stupid. What makes MS' stand out from it's competitors, is that the X360 has the strongest 3rd party support from publishers of exclusive titles such as HALO, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, Fable, etc.
br /
br /And although there are 3rd party games for both consoles, the 360 usually has the advantage when it comes to graphics and processing power. Just compare a game like say, Bayonetta between the PS3 nad 360 to see who comes out on top.
br /What's great about the 360 is the option to rip game DVDs and play it from your hard drive.
br /The bad news is that you better have atleast a 60gb HDD to get best results that and you still need the original disc in order to boot the game. As of now, the newest crop of 360 consoles have an improved chip that would less likely to overheat, and now you can get a yearly subscription for XBL Gold as low as .00 if you look hard enough.
br /
br /Although I could care less about the facebook and twitter features, it's an added bonus to one up it's competitors. (All they need now is youtube!!)I'm mostly stoked by the Netflix option. Although you need the gold subscription to play streamed movies, I found the interface far superior than the Netflix compatible Blu-ray players such as Samsung's pd-3600 with no lagging either.
br /
br /What also bumped this up a notch for me is the ability to not only play mp3 and divx videos, but it can be bookmarked. (Meaning if you turn the console off during the middle of the movie/file, you can continue where you left off once you reboot the console.) Other players lack that feature. Hopefully there will be a Matroska firmware update in the near future.
br /
br /Overall, I am very satifsfied with my 360 consoles as it's tailored for the hardcore gamer audience without too many bells and whistles.
